Pezeshkian says the signed memorandum will be the centre of gravity of Iran's future foreign relations

3 August 2026 | 3 months ago

President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on the social network X on the evening of Sunday, 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405), that the memorandum that was signed was the product of the collective wisdom of the members of SHOAM, the acronym Iranian media use for the country's Supreme National Security Council, and that all its members are in agreement with it. He added that he believes the memorandum will be the centre of gravity of Iran's foreign relations in the future.

In the same message the president wrote that efforts must be made to compel the other side to abide by what it has signed, and said the security of the country, the region and Iran's allies is enhanced by the memorandum. The text was carried the same evening by Khabar Online, the newspaper Donya-e Eqtesad and EcoIran.

The message came a day after US President Donald Trump announced late on Saturday, 1 August 2026, that he had cancelled a planned strike on Iran and that an understanding had been reached on the perimeters of a deal, and on the same day that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told a cabinet session that talks between Iran and Oman on a maritime traffic route were in their final stages. The course of this file feeds through expectations into Tehran's currency, gold and equity markets.
