Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan hold a phone call as Riyadh stresses its continued regional role in securing stability

3 August 2026 | 3 months ago

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan discussed the latest regional developments and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in a phone call on Sunday, 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405). ISNA reported the call on the basis of a statement by Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry.

According to that statement, the two sides exchanged views on recent developments in light of the current situation as well as on diplomatic efforts to lower tensions in the region. The Saudi foreign minister stressed Riyadh's commitment to continuing its regional role in establishing security and stability, in the service of the shared interests of all the region's countries and peoples. Before this call, Faisal bin Farhan had also spoken by phone with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

The call took place on the same day that media reported a phone call between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Donald Trump in which he urged that dialogue be prioritised. Diplomatic contacts around the war and the status of the Strait of Hormuz are among the variables shaping global oil prices and expectations in Iran's currency and gold markets.
