Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said early on Saturday, 21 Shahrivar 1405 (September 12, 2026) local time, in an interview with India's India Today television network, that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen once the United States ends its naval blockade and aggression against Iran. According to ISNA, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad, Pezeshkian added that Iran will not be stopped by the blockade, even though the sea route is not the country's lifeline.
He also said that on Monday, 23 Shahrivar (September 14), Arab foreign ministers will gather in Muscat, Oman, to sign the Iran-Oman agreement on a shared shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz and notify the International Maritime Organization of it; Pezeshkian noted that some of the countries attending had territory from which Iran was previously attacked. The remarks came a day after Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said the same Monday meeting would bring together Gulf Cooperation Council states and Iraq.
