28 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on the evening of Friday, August 28, 2026 (6 Shahrivar 1405), during state broadcaster IRIB's live interview program, that Oman has accepted that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz proceed under a roadmap drawn up within the framework of the Islamabad memorandum, coordinated with the Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces and Iran's negotiating team, and approved by the Supreme Leader. He said Oman initially cooperated, then raised reservations, but in a meeting two days before the interview agreed again to proceed on the coordinated route.
The president said Iran, in return for this step, is seeking implementation of US commitments including lifting the blockade and sanctions, releasing Iran's frozen oil and petrochemical revenues, resuming foreign investment, and halting military actions in Lebanon, and stressed that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz based on its own official decisions.
