Poultry Union Head: Eggs Still Selling Below Proposed and Production Cost Prices
8 September 2026 · last month
Reza Kashani, chairman of the board of Iran's Mihan Poultry Farmers Union, said in an interview published by Khabaronline on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar 1405 (September 8, 2026) and carried by Ecoiran, that the union submits a proposed monthly egg price to the Agriculture Jihad Ministry's livestock deputy at the start of each month, and its proposed price for Shahrivar, the current Iranian month, was 271,000 tomans per kilogram. He said producers have never actually been able to sell eggs at the farm gate for that price, and currently sell about 30,000 to 40,000 tomans per kilogram below the ministry's announced price, and about 70,000 to 80,000 tomans below both the union's proposed price and production cost, a trend he said has persisted over the past 45 days. He added that after Iran's currency liberalization, producers sold their output at about 50 percent of production cost for roughly six months. Kashani estimated the country's egg output for Shahrivar at about 118,000 tons, against domestic consumption of about 100,000 tons.
