Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Sunday, September 20, 2026, that talks and exchanges over various ideas to resume negotiations with Iran have been underway for about two weeks. Doha has previously played a mediating role between Iran and Western parties, and in August said talks between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz had reached a "sensitive point." The remark came the same day Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary said Tehran had set three conditions to end the war and was awaiting a US response, and as President Trump said he welcomes the idea of meeting Iran's president on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
