Reuters: Iran and Oman remain apart on Hormuz transit fee rate
6 August 2026 | 3 months ago
According to Reuters, carried by Ecoiran and Donya-e-Eqtesad on Thursday, August 6, 2026 (15 Mordad 1405), Iran and Oman have not reached agreement on the transit fee rate for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of talks to resume shipping there. Iran is seeking a fee in the range of 5 to 7 percent of a cargo's declared value, while Oman has proposed lowering that rate to 3 percent. Reuters said the United States firmly opposes any fee collection by Iran on ships transiting the strait, and Persian Gulf states have stressed that any payment by shipowners, if agreed, must be entirely voluntary. The dispute emerged as Al-Hadath television reported that a joint Iran-Oman statement on the strait was expected imminently.
