Reuters: No Crude Tanker Crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Friday
15 August 2026 | 2 months ago
According to Reuters, citing shipping traffic data from Kpler and carried by Fars News Agency on Saturday, August 15, 2026 (24 Mordad 1405), commercial vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz nearly stopped on Friday, August 14 (23 Mordad), and for the first time no crude oil cargo was recorded among that day's transits. Only a handful of vessels crossed the waterway, the report said: a grain carrying ship entered Iranian waters, an empty bulk carrier moved in the opposite direction, and an empty tanker carrying liquefied gas products was entering the Persian Gulf.
Reuters said the near halt followed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's (ADNOC) announcement that two of its vessels were attacked while transiting the strait on Thursday evening, 22 Mordad. The United Arab Emirates government blamed Iran for the attacks, though Tehran has not officially responded to the allegation.
