Russia's Tyumen refinery halts after drone strike, the sixth major plant offline in July

The Tyumen oil refinery in Siberia has suspended crude processing. Reuters reported on Tuesday 28 July 2026, citing two sources in Russia's oil industry, that the halt followed a drone strike on 25 July that set fire to two units at the complex: a diesel hydrotreating unit with a capacity of 2.6 million tonnes a year and a combined high-octane gasoline production unit.
The refinery has a nominal capacity of about 9 million tonnes of crude a year, or roughly 180,000 barrels per day. Tyumen is the sixth major Russian refinery to go offline after drone attacks since the start of July 2026, according to the report. Reuters' sources declined to say when it might resume operations.
The successive loss of Russian refining capacity tightens product supply in global markets and lifts refining margins. For Iran's market the development matters through two channels: world prices for refined products, and Russia's competition with Iran for Asian crude buyers.
