Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan told the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Saturday, September 26, 2026, that the Strait of Hormuz must return to its pre-war operating status without the imposition of any fees, and that threats to international shipping affect the global economy. He described the security of the Persian Gulf region as inseparable from global security and called restoring global supply chains a shared responsibility.

The Saudi minister accused Iran of attacks on his country and other states in the region; Al Jazeera also reported that Riyadh spoke of "flagrant attacks" by Iran and called for action against the Houthis. At the same time, bin Farhan backed de-escalation efforts by Qatar and Pakistan and said Iraqi territory must not become a launchpad for attacks on its neighbours. Tehran has previously rejected similar accusations.
