Saudi-Led Coalition Says It Downed a Houthi Drone in the Mecca Region; Yemen's Houthis Deny Targeting Mecca

Sahmino Newsroom | 30 October 2026 | 9 hours ago

A spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition said on Friday, October 30, 2026 (8 Aban 1405) that the coalition's air defences intercepted and destroyed a drone the Houthis had launched towards the Mecca region. Al Jazeera carried the claim in its live coverage and has not independently verified it.

Yahya Saree, the Houthis' military spokesman, denied firing a drone at Mecca and stressed that the movement's operations target oil facilities and military bases. Donya-e-Eqtesad and Ecoiran reported the denial. In a separate report the same day, Al Jazeera wrote that the Houthis claimed six attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities. Fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia has continued since a ceasefire collapsed in July 2026 (Tir 1405), and attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure matter for the oil market.
