Mostafa Salari, chief executive of Iran's Social Security Organization, said in an interview published on Monday 27 July 2026 that the organization faces a monthly deficit of 17,000 billion tomans, and stressed the need to settle the 750 thousand billion tomans the state owes it.
He said the formula for calculating pensions will change, but that no specific date has yet been set for paying retirees' arrears. Salari also discussed new financing measures for the organization under current conditions.
Social Security covers the livelihoods of a large share of Iran's population, and its financial position bears directly on the cash flow of millions of households. Earlier the same day it was reported that arrears owed to retirees for the first two Iranian months stand at about 82,000 billion tomans, with payment dependent on securing funds.
