Mahmoudian, director general of pensions at Iran's Social Security Organization, said in remarks carried by the ILNA and Khabaronline news agencies on Sunday, 18 Mordad 1405 (August 9, 2026), that the organization's overdue claims owed to retirees for the months of Farvardin and Ordibehesht 1405 have reached 82 trillion tomans. He said securing the funding needed to pay these arrears as quickly as possible remains the organization's top priority.
He attributed the high figure to pension increases kept in line with inflationary conditions and cost of living pressures, adding that paying the shortfall requires resources beyond the organization's regular pension budget.
