Social Security chief: pension arrears for the first two months total about 82 trillion tomans with no set payment date

Mostafa Salari, chief executive of Iran's Social Security Organization, said on Monday, July 27, 2026 that the pay differential owed to pensioners for each of the months of Farvardin and Ordibehesht is estimated at about 41 trillion tomans, bringing the total claim to roughly 82 trillion tomans.
He said no specific date has been set for paying these arrears and that payment depends on the organization securing the necessary financial resources. The arrears arose after new pay orders were issued and the annual salary increase was applied, and four months into the year they have still not been credited to pensioners' accounts.
On a proposed reform of the pension calculation formula, Salari said the plan is under review and, if approved, would not apply retroactively: those retiring within the next four to five years would still retire under the current formula, the average salary of the final two years of service. Under the proposed model, the basis of calculation is each person's wage coefficient relative to the minimum wage of that year, and he said expert reviews indicate the model could raise pensions by an average of 10 to 15 percent. Salari described the main aim as tackling insurance evasion, which he put at about 30 percent.
