According to CoinDesk on July 9, 2026 (18 Tir 1405), the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted conditional approval for Sony Bank to establish a stablecoin trust bank. The new entity, Connectia Trust National Association, will be capitalized with forty million dollars and will be wholly owned by Sony Bank. Sony said the bank is being set up "in preparation for the commercialization of businesses related to the issuance and management of US dollar denominated stablecoins in the United States." The approval is conditional only: Sony still must satisfy the OCC's remaining requirements and obtain Japanese regulatory authorization before it can actually issue or manage stablecoins, with the company targeting 2027 for commercial launch.
