11 July 2026 | 3 months ago
According to Bloomberg, reporting July 9, 2026, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed. Data from Lloyd's List Intelligence, also cited by Al Jazeera on July 10, shows no vessel above 10,000 dwt with its AIS transponder on has transited the so called Southern Highway route since July 7. Bloomberg reported only five vessels crossed the strait on Wednesday and early Thursday (July 8 and 9), down from 45 transits on Monday, July 6. Before the US and Israeli war on Iran began in late February 2026, roughly 130 vessels crossed the strait daily.
