According to Oilprice.com, in a report published Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405), ship tracking data from Kpler cited by Reuters showed only six commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz in both directions on Monday, August 10 (19 Mordad), down from a 10 day average of 11 ships. Of the six, four moved inbound into the Persian Gulf and two exited outbound.
Francisco Blanch, Bank of America's head of commodities and derivatives research, told CNBC on Monday that only about five to 10 ships a day are currently passing through the strait, compared with roughly 140 a day before the war, and that traffic needs to recover to near pre war levels of 80 to 100 ships a day to stabilize global energy markets. Traffic through the Bab el Mandeb strait, by contrast, held steady on Monday near its 10 day average of about 24 vessels.
