Tajgardoon: The Government Needs No Parliament Vote to Raise the Food Coupon Amount
26 September 2026 · 10 days ago
Gholamreza Tajgardoon, chairman of parliament's Plan, Budget and Accounts Committee, told Tasnim on Saturday, 26 September 2026, that the 1405 budget law left room for the government to raise spending if revenues and resources change, and that the government therefore needs no parliamentary approval if it wants to increase the food coupon (kalabarg) amount.
He noted, however, that the budget is currently in deficit and that new commitments cannot be taken on under a deficit unless they are necessary. Tajgardoon also said the report of the Seventh Development Plan oversight council would be submitted to parliament the same day, and that parliament is waiting for the government to propose the needed amendments to the plan's provisions, targets and quantitative tables. The remarks come a day after the spokesman of parliament's social committee said the food coupon credit increase would take effect by 15 Mehr (7 October).
