Iraqi Government in Talks With Washington to Resume Iranian Flights
26 September 2026 · 10 days ago
The media office of Iraq's prime minister said in a statement on Saturday, 26 September 2026, that following US Treasury Department measures on Iranian flights to airports in the region, Baghdad is holding direct talks with the American side to have some Iraqi airports exempted.
According to the statement, the aim is to resume Iranian flights for humanitarian purposes, including medical treatment, education, pilgrimage travel and the interests of citizens. The position comes after Najaf airport stopped accepting Iranian flights and Iran's Civil Aviation Organization on Friday halted ticket sales for flights to Iraq and ordered full refunds.
