Tavanir says a one-day-a-week power restriction now applies across all Iranian industrial estates

Reza Kafili, head of engineering and distribution network strategy at Iran's Tavanir power utility, said on Monday, August 3, 2026, that a one-day-a-week electricity restriction now applies across all industrial estates in the country. He said restrictions on industry began at one day a week, were then moved to Fridays, and rose to two days a week for a period as temperatures climbed.
He said electricity consumption is down 3 percent from last year while energy generation is up 5 percent, and that peak-load management has been easier than a year ago. According to Kafili, household outages have been applied only in the past two to three weeks, with load management before that concentrated in the agricultural sector.
Kafili put total losses on Iran's power network at between 16 and 18 percent, most of it non-technical and caused by unauthorised consumption; excluding that, technical losses run at 5 to 6 percent. Power restrictions on industry feed directly into production schedules at steel, cement and petrochemical plants.
