Tehran Calls US Reply to Its Plan "Inadequate"; Rezaei Says Washington Accepted Some of the Seven Conditions
12 October 2026 | 8 days ago
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, wrote on his personal page in the early hours of Monday, 20 Mehr 1405 (12 October 2026), that the United States has accepted some of Iran's seven conditions for ending the war, but that Tehran considers Washington's reply "inadequate". He added that Iran's diplomacy has changed and will not return to its former position. Al Jazeera and Donya-e-Eqtesad reported the remarks.
Kazem Gharibabadi, the Foreign Ministry's deputy for legal affairs, said at a press conference in Bandar Abbas on Sunday night, 19 Mehr (11 October), that Iran's seven-day plan was passed through intermediaries, including Qatar, that the American side's views have been received and are under review, and that Iran's answer will be announced through the same channel once an internal conclusion is reached. He said a return to normal conditions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depend on the United States returning to its earlier commitments.
These are the latest official positions after Sunday's statements that tied the reopening of the strait to acceptance of Iran's conditions. The negotiation track bears directly on oil, gold and currency prices, because Hormuz is the main outlet for Persian Gulf oil exports.
