Supreme National Security Council Secretary: Hormuz Will Not Reopen Until Iran's Seven Conditions Are Accepted; Reply to Washington Not Finalised

11 October 2026 | 8 days ago

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said in a televised interview reported by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Sunday, 19 Mehr 1405 (October 11, 2026), that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran's control and will not reopen until "Iran's seven conditions" are accepted. He rejected Donald Trump's repeated claim that the strait is open.

Rezaei added that the Americans have tried to reach Iran through three channels: Iraq, Pakistan and Qatar. According to him, Washington has answered Iran's conditions and accepted some of them, but its reply on the others was vague; Iran will not finalise its response process unless those ambiguities are removed and the US position is stated explicitly. He also said Iran will keep control of the strait and benefit from its economic returns.

These remarks are the official position of an Iranian official, and no independent source is cited in this report for his other claims, including those on the US economy and operations at sea. The Strait of Hormuz carries a large share of the world's oil, and its status directly affects oil, dollar and gold prices in Iran's markets.
