Tehran Orchardists Union: fruit production and packaging costs have tripled, and halting exports is not the way to control prices

The deputy head of the Tehran Orchardists Union said on Monday 27 July 2026 that fruit production and packaging costs have tripled, and stressed that banning or halting fruit exports is not the way to control prices.
He said such a restriction could create serious difficulties for horticultural output, because export markets provide part of growers' income and removing them weakens the incentive to produce.
The remarks come amid continuing volatility in domestic fruit prices, with export restrictions one of the government's routine instruments for regulating agricultural markets.
