Tehran Water Utility Reports Lower Summer Demand but Rainfall Still Below Average

The Tehran Province Water and Wastewater Company said the maximum instantaneous water-use peak in Tir 1405 fell about 20% compared with Tir 1403. The highest daily use in Mordad 1405 was also 14.4% lower than in Mordad 1403. Company spokesman Behnam Bakhshi said daily per-capita use declined from about 250 litres in 1403 to about 180 litres in late summer 1405.
According to company figures through the end of Mehr 1405, rainfall in its service area remained 36.8% below the long-term average. Lower consumption is a gain for Tehran's water management, but the company says it alone does not remove constraints on water supplies. Mehr News Agency carried the report.
