Tether, the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin, said in its second quarter 2026 financial report, published by Bourse News on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that its net operating profit for the period reached $1.5 billion, close to 50 percent higher than in the first quarter.
According to the report, Tether added 14 tonnes of gold to its reserves during the second quarter, bringing its total gold holdings above 146 tonnes. As of 30 June 2026 the company held $187.75 billion in assets against $183.64 billion in liabilities, taking its excess reserves to $4.11 billion. Tether in circulation stood at about $184.6 billion at the end of the quarter, roughly $446 million more than at the end of March. The company said that despite the global stablecoin market shrinking over the period, its market share rose above 60 percent.
Tether said the bulk of its backing assets remain invested in short term US Treasury bills, repurchase agreements and other liquid, government backed assets, and that most of the quarter's operating profit came from those investments. The company also reported a reduction of about $2.38 billion, or 15 percent, in its secured loans during the period. Tether is the most widely used cryptocurrency in Iran's market, which makes the composition of its reserves relevant to domestic users.
