Tether traded around 192,000 tomans in Iran on Friday, above the latest free-market dollar rate

17 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Tether, the dollar stablecoin, traded around 192,000 tomans on Iranian crypto exchanges on Friday, July 17, 2026 (26 Tir 1405). Domestic sources put the rate between roughly 191,700 and 192,400 tomans, up close to 2% from 24 hours earlier.

With Iran's cash currency and gold markets closed on Thursdays and Fridays, tether effectively serves as the only live gauge of the exchange rate over the weekend. At about 192,000 tomans it sits above the latest free-market dollar rate (around 188,600 tomans at Thursday's close on 25 Tir).

The gap may signal precautionary demand amid the escalating Iran-U.S. military conflict, as traders lacking an open official currency market use the stablecoin to hedge weekend risk.
