Trade Promotion Organization: 1404 Exports Were About 155 Million Tons, Mostly Through Southern Routes

Amir Roshanbakhsh, deputy for international business promotion at Iran's Trade Promotion Organization, said in an interview published by EcoIran on Thursday, September 24, 2026 that Iran exported about 155 million tons of goods and imported 42 million tons in the Iranian year 1404 (March 2025 to March 2026). More than 100 million tons of the exports and about 30 million tons of the imports went through the country's southern routes, he said.
Roshanbakhsh added that at this volume of trade, shifting cargo entirely from sea to road and rail is not possible, and logistical constraints remain one of the main challenges for the country's trade. EcoIran wrote in the same report that foreign trade figures for the first five months of 1405 have declined, with disruption to transport routes among the factors weighing on them. The figures show how heavily Iran's trade depends on its southern ports and the Strait of Hormuz route.
