Trump announces a Board of Peace agreement to disarm Hamas, with an Israeli withdrawal to follow
31 July 2026 | 3 months ago
US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), that his "Board of Peace" has reached an agreement to disarm Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. He said the disarmament would take place in phases and that, once complete, Israel would withdraw from Gaza and be replaced by an International Stabilisation Force working alongside a new Palestinian police force.
Hamas had not officially commented on the announcement at the time of reporting. Al Jazeera said it had obtained a copy of the document agreed to by Hamas and other Palestinian factions. According to the draft the network saw, the implementation schedule for the weapons inventory process must be prepared within 14 days, a deadline that may be extended if an international verification commission agrees.
Trump described the agreement as part of the ceasefire he brokered in October. Hamas leaders had been in Cairo since late last week holding talks with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye. On 6 July, Hamas announced the dissolution of the body that had governed Gaza for nearly two decades. Any durable easing of tensions in West Asia typically feeds through to global oil markets via the geopolitical risk premium.
