Israeli air attacks across Gaza one day after Hamas agrees to phased disarmament
1 August 2026 | 3 months ago
Al Jazeera reported on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405) that Israeli attacks in several parts of the Gaza Strip killed at least two Palestinians and wounded at least 10 others. The strikes came hours after Hamas agreed to a draft peace deal drawn up by the Board of Peace set up by US President Donald Trump.
Under the draft, Hamas would disarm in phases, with each phase matched by an Israeli withdrawal from part of Gaza. Trump had earlier said the disarmament deal would be complex to deliver.
The gap between the announced agreement and the continuing strikes points to the fragility of the process. Security developments in West Asia feed through the geopolitical risk premium into global oil prices and into Iran's currency and gold markets.
