Trump Claims Oil Flow Through Strait of Hormuz Has Returned to Normal
3 September 2026 | 2 months ago
US President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Thursday, September 3, 2026 (12 Shahrivar 1405) that the volume of oil transiting the Strait of Hormuz, previously about 20 million barrels a day, has returned to normal. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, Trump also reposted a Washington Post report about a possible Syrian plan to serve as an alternative route to the strait, calling it great.
The claim came hours after ISNA, citing Reuters, reported that preliminary data from a shipping tracker showed only four cargo vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, September 2, against a 10 day average of about 13 vessels.
