Trump Claims US Navy Has "100 Percent" Control of Strait of Hormuz After Clearing Mines
11 August 2026 | 2 months ago
US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday evening, 19 Mordad 1405 (August 10, 2026), that the US Navy has fully cleared mines from the Strait of Hormuz and now holds "100 percent" control of the strategic waterway, saying the strait is "open now." According to Iran's IRNA news agency, also carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad and Ecoiran, Trump said: "The only one that has control of the Strait of Hormuz right now is the United States Navy... We have swept the entire strait for mines." He added that the US is not allowing ships to sail toward Iran, though he said the strait is open to other traffic. The remarks repeat claims Trump has made before about the strait, and come as commercial transit through the waterway remains sharply below pre-war levels, according to Shafaq News. The Strait of Hormuz normally carries about one fifth of the world's oil exports, and any signal about its status affects global oil prices and Iran's markets.
