US President Donald Trump told Al Jazeera's Tanya Noury, in an interview broadcast Wednesday, August 26, 2026 (4 Shahrivar 1405), that he has no timetable for Iran's return to negotiations. Asked how much time he was giving Iran, he said: "I have no time schedule, none. I'm not in a hurry. I have no time schedule at all." He added that the United States is "winning very big" and that Iran faces heavy inflation and an economic crisis. This Friday, August 28, 2026 (6 Shahrivar 1405), marks six months since the US Israel war on Iran began with strikes on Tehran on February 28, 2026 (9 Esfand 1404).
The remarks mark a shift from Trump's earlier promises that the conflict would end within "four to six weeks." A 60 day memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, signed in June 2026 to manage transit through the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief and nuclear talks, expired earlier in August. On Monday, August 24, 2026 (2 Shahrivar 1405), the US announced new sanctions on Iran and 60 entities across various countries doing business with Iran, which officials dubbed an "economic D Day." Iran's Foreign Ministry described the sanctions as a threat to international law and the UN Charter.
