US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, September 20, 2026, that he welcomes the idea of meeting Iran's president on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York. The remark came after Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary said earlier the same day that Tehran had set three conditions to end the war and was awaiting a response from Washington. In a separate statement the same day, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, quoted by ISNA, said Iran does not seek war or conflict but will never yield to force or bullying. Both statements came amid heightened regional military and diplomatic tension, including US embassy travel warnings across West Asia and Trump's early departure from a Camp David trip.
