Two Tankers Carrying Saudi Oil Struck by Projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz
1 September 2026 | 2 months ago
Early Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (10 Shahrivar 1405), Reuters reported, citing maritime risk firms Kpler and Marisks, that two supertankers carrying Saudi crude oil were struck by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. The Saudi VLCC "Sidr" was hit first by three projectiles, and just minutes later a second vessel, the Liberian-flagged "Senegal Prosperity" operated by South Korea's Sinokor, was also struck by three projectiles about 17 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) confirmed an incident at the same coordinates, saying crews on both ships were safe and no environmental damage had been reported. Each tanker was carrying roughly 2 million barrels of Saudi crude loaded at the Ju'aymah terminal. The incident came amid renewed military tension between Iran and the United States in the region.
