Typhoon Noul makes landfall in southern China with over 340,000 evacuated in Guangdong and flights canceled
26 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Typhoon Noul made landfall in southern China early on Sunday 26 July 2026, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the region and to Hong Kong. China's national weather center said the storm came ashore along the coast of Huidong county in the city of Huizhou, Guangdong province, at approximately 3:50 a.m. local time.
More than 340,000 people were evacuated in Guangdong province, which was placed on high alert. According to Hong Kong airport's website, more than 150 flights were canceled for Saturday and Sunday.
Guangdong is China's industrial and export hub and home to several major container ports. Disruption in the province and in Hong Kong can slow freight schedules and supply chains for East Asian goods, a route that carries part of Iran's imports as well.
