The UK government published a new law on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar 1405 (September 8, 2026), toughening its unilateral sanctions against Iran. According to ISNA, citing Reuters, the law further restricts Iran's access to the British financial system, extends trade bans to more goods, technology and services, and bans Iranian aircraft from flying in the UK, except where exemptions apply. Stephen Doughty, a minister of state at the UK Foreign Office, said in a statement that the law doubles London's efforts to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions. Iran has repeatedly stressed the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and said producing or using nuclear weapons has no place in its defense doctrine. Reuters said the UK move comes alongside the continuation of US President Donald Trump's economic pressure campaign against Iran.
