The national average price of regular gasoline in the United States stood at $4.110 a gallon on Sunday 26 July 2026, according to the AAA daily tracker. That compares with $3.998 a week earlier, $3.901 a month earlier and $3.151 a year earlier. The diesel average on the same day was $5.295 a gallon.
In its weekly report on Thursday 23 July 2026, AAA said the national average had jumped 15 cents in a week to $4.091 and that most states were averaging $4 a gallon or higher. AAA attributed the rise to crude oil prices moving into the $90 a barrel range on volatility around the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region. The most expensive markets in that report were California at $5.57, Hawaii at $5.42 and Washington at $5.07.
The highest national average AAA has recorded for regular gasoline is $5.016, set on 14 June 2022.
