US average petrol price reaches $4.11 a gallon, about 31 percent higher than a year ago

The national average price for a gallon of regular petrol in the United States reached $4.11 on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), compared with $3.15 a year earlier. Based on AAA data, that is a rise of about 96 cents, or close to 31 percent, year on year.
US fuel prices have stayed elevated following volatility in global oil markets in the wake of the war with Iran. The figures were reported on the day Donald Trump spoke at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan about his administration's economic record, emphasising a revival of domestic manufacturing and auto tariffs.
Pump prices in the United States are one of the variables that shape domestic political pressure on Washington, and through that channel they bear on market expectations about whether tensions with Iran continue or end, and in turn on world oil prices and on Iran's currency and gold markets.
