US average gasoline price reaches $4.11, its first move above $4 since 2022
27 July 2026 | 3 months ago
The US national average price for a gallon of gasoline reached $4.11 as of Sunday, 26 July 2026, according to US fuel-market data. AAA had earlier recorded the national average crossing $4 on 20 July and reaching $4.09 on 23 July, the first time the benchmark has stood above $4 since 2022.
The same data show the average was around $3.60 before the latest round of tensions and rose by close to 50 cents, or more than 14 percent, in the two weeks to 26 July. It is also up more than 30 percent from the same period last year. In parts of the western United States, including Mono County in California, prices have approached $7 a gallon.
The main driver cited is the disruption of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and the rise in crude prices over recent weeks. Crude fell more than 5 percent in trading late Sunday and early Monday, 27 July.
