On Saturday 1 August 2026, US embassies in Egypt, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan warned of a possible escalation of tensions in West Asia and asked American citizens to be fully prepared to leave the region if conditions deteriorate. The notices widen the scope of Washington's earlier advisories to its nationals.
The US embassy in Amman said in a security alert on X that Americans currently in the region should increase their caution and vigilance and be ready for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and possible travel disruption. Americans outside the region were advised to seriously reconsider travel to and transit through the area.
The same statement asked US citizens to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan and to follow official alerts and the instructions of Jordanian authorities. For markets, warnings about airspace and flights feed through to insurance costs and to air and maritime transport routes across the region.
