US embassies in ten countries across West Asia and North Africa warn of unexpected escalation

2 August 2026 | 3 months ago

Eghtesad Online reported on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405) that US embassies in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had warned of a possible unexpected escalation of hostilities and told American citizens to be ready to leave the region.

The alerts followed the US president's statement that he would hit Iran hard. Al Jazeera separately reported in the same window that US embassies had issued alerts after those remarks. On Sunday 11 Mordad, the US president said in a post on Truth Social that he had cancelled the planned strike and that the perimeters of a deal had been agreed.

The embassy alerts matter for markets because all ten countries named are either energy exporters or transit routes for regional goods and currency flows. The risk premium generated by such warnings typically shows up in oil prices, shipping rates and Iran's currency market.
