The US House of Representatives voted 214 to 211 on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (24 Shahrivar 1405), to advance a procedural measure paving the way for new sanctions on Russia and Iran. According to EcoIran, citing RT, the narrow margin reflects a split among lawmakers. The measure follows a bill the US Senate passed by a wide majority in August, sponsored by Senator Lindsey Graham, that calls for 100 percent tariffs on five major buyers of Russian energy and 500 percent tariffs on goods imported from Russia into the US. Democratic opponents argue the measure would hurt the US more than it would help.
