US forces widened their strikes on Iran on Thursday, July 16, 2026, hitting targets around Tehran and in a province that hosts Iran's missile program, according to news reports. Air defenses were activated in parts of Tehran early Thursday, and residents reported hearing an explosion.
Iran's Health Ministry said more than 260 people were wounded in the latest round of US strikes. A spokesman for Iran's armed forces general staff again said US interference in the Strait of Hormuz is a red line, and that Tehran would target infrastructure across the region if Washington attacks Iranian infrastructure. Higher oil prices and pressure on Iranian markets have continued amid the tensions.
