An American official told The Associated Press, in a report Ecoiran carried on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 (21 Mordad 1405), that Washington expects to fully complete the withdrawal of its remaining forces from Iraq by September 30, 2026 (8 Mehr 1405). The official did not disclose the exact number of remaining troops or where they would be redeployed. AP reporting the same day said Iraq's prime minister and the US Department of Defense separately confirmed the completion of the American troop withdrawal from Iraq by the end of September. The withdrawal comes amid the regional war between the United States and Iran and wider tension across West Asia that has weighed on Iraq's stability, oil exports and its dinar market.
