Hamidreza Azimi, deputy head of Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), said in a report Bourse News published Wednesday, August 12, 2026 (21 Mordad 1405), that the country's installed solar power capacity has grown sevenfold over the past two years, from about 700 megawatts to more than 5,000 megawatts. He said total renewable capacity rose from 1,250 megawatts to over 5,000 megawatts over the same period, with more than 900 renewable projects now underway across all 31 provinces. Azimi said Iran now ranks third in Asia for renewable power development, after China and India, and that capacity is planned to reach 7,000 and then 12,000 megawatts in the near term. He added that the country's power supply shortfall currently still stands at 15,000 to 20,000 megawatts.
