Wall Street splits Monday: Dow edges higher while Nasdaq falls under chip-stock pressure
13 July 2026 | 3 months ago
US stocks split in Monday trading on 13 July 2026. The Dow Jones rose about 0.1 percent, while the S&P 500 fell close to 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq dropped roughly 0.7 percent. A jump in oil prices, driven by a fresh exchange of US and Iranian strikes over the Strait of Hormuz, lifted energy shares such as ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and Chevron by about 1 percent, while chip and memory makers including Micron, Western Digital and SanDisk fell by nearly 5 percent, weighing most heavily on the Nasdaq.
In the same session, Brent crude rose about 3.4 percent to near 77.7 dollars a barrel and West Texas Intermediate gained roughly 3.5 percent to near 72.9 dollars. US investors were also awaiting June consumer inflation data and the start of the big banks' earnings season in the days ahead.
