Work on the Deyl Tunnel in Gachsaran resumes after a seven year halt
27 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Work on the Deyl Tunnel project in Gachsaran county, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, halted since the Iranian year 1398 (2019/20), will resume within the next few days on the Gachsaran to Choram axis. The details were set out in the early hours of Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405) by Gholamreza Tajgardoon, the member of parliament for Gachsaran and Basht, and Samsam Aghaei, projects manager at the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company in the province.
According to Aghaei, about 20 billion tomans has been spent on the project so far, and completing it requires roughly 3,000 billion tomans of funding. Work stopped in 1398 because of a minor gas leak, and after an eighteen month study process the assessments found continuing construction safe and feasible.
The tunnel sits within the wider scheme to build the Choram, Gachsaran, Babakalan, Emamzadeh Jafar and Chaharbisheh main road, which is included in the annex to the 1405 budget and for which funding was also earmarked during a presidential provincial visit. Its stated aims are to ease access between the Deyl area and Gachsaran, reduce road accidents, and divert part of the traffic on the Shahreza to Behbahan corridor. Funding will be released in step with physical progress.
