Qatar's official news agency (QNA) reported that Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi held a phone call to discuss the latest regional developments, efforts to reduce tensions, and the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. The report was published in the early hours of Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405).
In the call, Al Thani stressed that all parties must commit to dialogue and diplomacy and implement the terms of the memorandum signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, which he said is intended to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, secure the region, protect the gains of diplomacy and strengthen regional stability. Qatar again stated its support for past and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and reach a comprehensive agreement leading to lasting peace in the region. Bilateral relations between Doha and Muscat, and ways to expand them, were also discussed.
The Strait of Hormuz is the main export route for Persian Gulf oil, and the state of vessel traffic through it feeds directly into global oil prices and into Iran's currency and gold markets.
