Pricing Iranian Gold

Start with the global quotation in US dollars per troy ounce of fine gold. Divide by 31.1034768 to obtain dollars per gram, multiply by the selected rial-per-dollar rate, then by fineness for the product.

Start with the global quotation in US dollars per troy ounce of fine gold. Divide by 31.1034768 to obtain dollars per gram, multiply by the selected rial-per-dollar rate, then by fineness for the product. Eighteen-karat gold uses 0.750 fineness. This is a metal-value calculation, before manufacturing, fees, tax treatment and local premiums. Keep currency, unit, purity and timestamps explicit. A different FX segment or stale ounce quote can create an apparent discrepancy that is not an arbitrage opportunity.

Worked example (hypothetical)

At $2,000 per ounce and 600,000 rial per dollar, fine gold is about 38,581,000 rial per gram. Multiplying by 0.750 gives about 28,936,000 rial for an 18-karat gram, before added charges.

Check your understanding

Can a toman quotation enter a rial formula unchanged? No. One toman is ten rial; mixing them creates a tenfold error.
