President Donald Trump is expected to host the chief executives of Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket and Kraken at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next to the White House, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 (28 Mordad 1405). CoinDesk and Bitcoin.com News, which both reported the plans on Saturday, August 15, say the gathering is a prelude to the first meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) new "Innovation Advisory Committee" on Thursday, August 20 (29 Mordad); a committee set to lay out a regulatory path for crypto markets while a key bill remains stuck in the Senate.

Background

The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (the "CLARITY Act"), the United States' main proposed framework for crypto market structure, has been stalled in the Senate for weeks. Sahmino reported on August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad) that Senate majority leadership pushed the bill's final consideration to September, after Congress's month-long recess, and on August 9 (18 Mordad) that the stall was continuing despite a $225 million lobbying push from the crypto industry. Congress remains on that summer recess now. In the meantime, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday, August 13 (22 Mordad) postponed its meeting on the proposed "Reg Crypto" rule without setting a new date, a sign that regulators are pursuing their own tracks rather than waiting on Congress.

Who Is Expected, and Where

Citing people familiar with the planning, CoinDesk reports that Trump is expected to attend Wednesday's meeting, though the White House had not confirmed a final guest list or formal agenda as of these reports. The invite list named by CoinDesk, Bitcoin.com News and Iran's Arzdigital includes:

  • The CEOs of Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket and Kraken, as members of the CFTC's newly formed Innovation Advisory Committee;
  • SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Mike Selig;
  • Possibly Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to CoinDesk;
  • Executives from the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange, plus DTCC chief executive Frank La Salle;
  • And, per the same reports, representatives of Chainlink, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Paradigm.

The following day, Thursday, August 20, the same crowd is expected to sit for the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee's first official session, a 35-member panel opening with a session titled "Crypto's Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity."

Drivers

The guest list, which spans crypto exchanges to the NYSE and DTCC, shows the White House increasingly treating crypto market structure as inseparable from mainstream financial plumbing. CoinDesk frames the meeting as part of an ongoing fight over the CLARITY Act, one that, the outlet reports, may hinge partly on whether Trump is willing to accept tighter ethics restrictions on his family's personal stake in the crypto industry. Still, according to Bitcoin.com News, the meeting's more immediate purpose is to set the stage for the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee's first formal session, a body that, independent of the bill's fate in Congress, is meant to put its own regulatory framework on the table.

The CFTC has the upper hand in a separate matter this week too: Bitcoin.com News reports the agency recently used its emergency authority to keep the prediction-market platform Kalshi operating in New York state, after the state's attorney general sought to shut it down, another example of the CFTC charting its own regulatory course for crypto and prediction markets without Congress.

Outlook

With the CLARITY Act stalled, the SEC and CFTC are each pursuing independent paths on crypto regulation, a dynamic CoinDesk describes as "two regulators building their own parallel tracks." No fresh Senate vote on the CLARITY Act is expected until Congress reconvenes in September. At minimum, Wednesday's meeting and Thursday's committee session will show which companies have a seat at the table as the rules for this market get written, even while the underlying legislation still sits in Congress.

Bottom Line

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Trump meets the chief executives of America's largest crypto exchanges and prediction markets at the White House, but the meeting does not substitute for a Senate vote on the CLARITY Act, which remains pending until Congress returns in September. Here is why it matters for an Iranian audience: the US regulatory order for crypto is the same backdrop against which dollar-pegged stablecoins like Tether gain or lose stability. As Sahmino's "Crypto from Scratch" lesson has explained, Tether has effectively become a "digital dollar" for many Iranians facing year-on-year inflation near 84 percent. The same US agencies now hosting crypto executives this week also sanctioned two Iran-linked crypto exchanges, Shelbit and Aban Tether, on August 7 (16 Mordad) this year; Washington's regulatory track, whether through Congress or through the SEC and CFTC, reaches directly into Tehran's parallel market too.

In Iran's domestic market, at 8:29 p.m. Tehran time on Saturday, August 15, 2026 (24 Mordad), bitcoin traded at $63,096 and tether at 1,866,200 rials (186,620 tomans) on Sahmino's board, figures that had not moved by publication time, a sign the domestic market has not yet reacted to the White House meeting news since its outcome is still unknown.

What to Watch

  • Whether Wednesday's meeting produces a joint statement or a concrete plan for the CLARITY Act, or remains a preliminary gathering;
  • The outcome of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee's first meeting on Thursday, August 20;
  • The fate of the CLARITY Act vote once Congress reconvenes in September;
  • How tether's and bitcoin's prices in Iran's domestic market react to any fresh news on this file.
